Authorities have brought under control a fire that broke out in Strovolos industrial area which affected three factories, fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis announced on Monday afternoon.

The blaze started in a field near GSP stadium in the industrial area of Strovolos municipality.

“Extensive damage was sustained to a large outbuilding which is split in two. One was a storage area for sanitary products and the second was a workshop for servicing air conditioning vehicles,” Kettis Tweeted.

He said there was extensive damage to both as well as extensive damage to vehicles that were in the air conditioning repair shop for repair.

“The LPG storage and handling plant as well as a second sub-station located near the fire were protected after several efforts by the firefighting forces and suffered light damage,” Kettis added.

Firefighting forces will remain at the scene for final extinguishments and will remain throughout the night, and an investigation will follow when conditions permit in conjunction with the police, he added.

Six fire engines responded to the scene from Nicosia, Larnaca and the Disaster Response Special Unit (DRSU). The forestry department is also sending equipment to supply water, Kettis said.
