A 27-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night after causing a ruckus and assaulting a police officer while drunk at the Famagusta general hospital, according to the police.

“Just after 8.30pm on Sunday 24 July, a 27-year-old assaulted an on-duty police officer at the Famagusta general hospital. Police reinforcements arrived on scene shortly thereafter while a private guard also rushed in to help,” the police announcement said.

The 27-year-old was arrested as he was being aggressive and swearing at officers.

The police took him to the Famagusta district court on Monday that decided to set October 6 to impose a sentence.

The 27-year-old was subsequently released after signing a €10 thousand bond.

He is being charged with assaulting a police officer, being drunk and causing a public disturbance, public indecency, verbally insulting religious sentiments and resisting lawful arrest.
