Events to wrap up July

The summer is flying by but fear not. There is plenty of time for beach lounging, festival-going and road-tripping and several exciting events are taking place this week to bid farewell to a month full of cultural happenings.

On Wednesday two local creatives will join forces for a summery pop-up shop in downtown Nicosia. Artists Paintbrushinmytea and Zarburst will bring out all of their prints, art, collages, stickers and other creations to briefly take over Bomba Picnic until Saturday. Their pop-up will launch with an intimate opening event from 4pm to 8pm and until the end of the month, their art will be displayed at the old Nicosia shop for passersby to explore.

Bringing a taste of something different is the theatrical performance Under/pants which will take place at the Eleftheria Square amphitheatre on Thursday. With Nayia T. Karakosta on stage, the performance deals with sexuality and taboos about pleasure, the body and relationships. After the 7.30pm performance, a discussion will follow titled How Young People Discover Sex and Their Bodies, presented by the organisers of the event CARDET and the Cyprus Family Planning Association.

Changing gears and creating a total summery atmosphere with funky reggae sounds is a concert that the popular Greek band Locomondo is planning for Sunday. Taking over Ammos Beach Bar for a colourful evening concert, one of Greece’s best known bands returns to the island after two years for a reggae, ska and Latin party. Doors open at 6pm with DJs on the decks before Locomondo takes the stage for another one of the iconic summer performances.
