Alleged racist attack on Limassol

handcuffs 03

Police are investigating an alleged racist attack in Limassol after the arrest of a 30-year-old man for striking a 27-year-old over the head with a pipe.

The 27-year-old was taken to A&E at Limassol general hospital for his injury but was later discharged.

The attack took place in the city centre, along Kitiou Kyprianou street, just before Wednesday midnight. Statements detailed that the suspect appears to have had racist motives behind the attack on the younger man.

The police announcement on Thursday morning detailed that the suspect is in custody, with the unit investigating the case on the grounds of bodily harm, drunkenness, and racial discrimination, among others.

Officers at the scene spotted the younger man attempting to restrain the attacker.
