Paphos was ranked in the middle of a price survey of a basket of beach items and services carried out by the UK Post Office.

The survey looked at the cost of 12 quintessential beach holiday items in various popular tourist destinations for Britons. The basket of items included family meals, drinks, sun cream, insect repellent and beach items such as buckets, spades, snorkel sets and lilos, among other things.

In Paphos, the total cost of the basket sits just above the average (₤138.85) at ₤144.57. A three-course family meal will cost roughly ₤2 less than the average (₤72.9) at ₤70.32, while the cost of a bottle of lager will set one back by ₤2.39 and a glass of wine by ₤3.92.

Interestingly, Paphos has the most expensive water rides available across all destinations costing ₤26.11.

The cheapest destinations are Sunny Beach in Bulgaria and Marmararis in Turkey, with the former’s basket totalling a cost of ₤85.63 and the latter’s ₤86.07.

Notably, both destinations are more expensive compared to 2019 prices, Sunny Beach by 7.9 per cent and Marmararis by 10.6 per cent. The biggest price increases were observed in Crete (37.7 per cent) and Costa del Sol (22.6 per cent).

Despite the price hikes, the basket of the two cheapest destinations is still 20 per cent lower than the cheapest Eurozone resort, Portugal’s Algarve, the basket of which totals ₤108.47.

Importantly, both destinations sit outside the eurozone, and given the current exchange rates offer greater value than eurozone destinations.

Funchal Madeira is the next cheapest destination at ₤125.23, followed by the Costa Del Sol, Spain, at ₤127.33 and Corfu, Greece, at ₤133.78.

The most expensive destination is Ibiza, with a cost of ₤186.47 followed by Puglia, Italy at ₤185.81, both being more than ₤100 more expensive than the cheapest destinations.

The cheapest bottle of lager can be found in Sunny Beach for ₤1.01 while the most expensive in Crete, Corfu, and Rhodes with a cost of ₤3.48. The most expensive glass of wine is found in Crete at ₤5.22 and the cheapest in Portugal’s Algarve Portugal with a cost of ₤1.31.

In addition, the most expensive three course family meal is found in Puglia (₤107.92) and the cheapest in Sunny Beach at ₤34.11. The average cost of this item across all destinations stands at ₤72.9.
