The staged reading that brings to life the imagined dialogues between Leonardo da Vinci and Lady Gioconda returns this August for just two performances. Popular with audiences when Alpha Square first presented this play by Jules Tasca in February, Live Drawing: A Portrait of the Mona Lisa will be staged again on August 2 and 3.
What is special about this performance series is not only the fact that they will be held outdoors in the garden of the Leventis Municipal Museum but that the play will be presented in Greek for the first time, accompanied by a glass of Nelion wine.
Starring Andreas Araouzos and Christina Marouchou, the play is a speculative drama about the three years it took the famous da Vinci to paint his globally known masterwork. Mona Lisa wants to be immortalised by the most famous painter in Europe. He has personal reasons to keep the portrait to himself rather than release it to Francesco Gioconda, who commissioned his wife’s portrait. Leonardo and Lisa argue and debate but they also bare their souls to each other. Artist and subject develop together to acquire a sense of supreme camaraderie.
