Police on Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with multiple cases of arson.

According to police, at around 1.50am on Wednesday authorities were tipped about parked vehicles burning in Nicosia.

Arriving on scene, police found that three vehicles were burning.

At the same time, a fire had broken out at a shop nearby resulting in another two vehicles catching fire.

The fire department were also on scene extinguishing the fires.

Examining CCTV footage police found that an individual of thin build, wearing black pants and hat, a light-coloured t shirt, carrying a bag on his shoulder and riding a bicycle, had set fire to a pile of tires that were outside the shop.

The fire had then spread to the shop in front and to the two cars parked in front of the next-door building.

A while later, police found the 33-year-old resulting in his arrest after confessing to the arson of the shop.

Police also found a bicycle nearby resembling the bicycle from the footage.
