Two police officers injured in drunken disturbance at Paphos airport

Police officers were injured in a disturbance caused by drunk tourists outside Paphos airport on Thursday night, the force said on Friday.

The case involved two tourists, a 27-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man.

According to Paphos police spokesman and CID chief Michalis Nicolaou at around 9pm police were told about a man and a woman causing disturbance at the airport’s parking space.

Members of the airport’s security approached the two individuals who were drunk, shouting insults and causing a disturbance.

On the advice to calm down, the woman pushed a member of the force and continued causing disturbances while attempting to flee the scene.

As she was stopped by police officers, she bit one of them on the shoulder.

The 31-year-old man, who was also shouting and being abusive while in a drunken state, at some point pushed a police officer and resisted arrest.

The two individuals were eventually arrested and taken into custody.

The police officers who were assaulted were taken to the accident and emergency department of the Paphos General hospital where they received first aid and were subsequently released.
