Music nights coming up in Paphos

cinema my love

Musical evenings continue in Paphos dedicated to the art of the piano, cinema and baroque melodies. Coming up within the framework of the classical music concert series Technopolis 20 Classics is a piano solo concert at Markideio Theatre on October 21. The featured performer of the evening is young Cypriot pianist based in the United Kingdom Stavroula Thoma who will perform works by JS Bach, F Liszt, M Ravel and I Albeniz.

Stavroula gave her concerto debut in May 2014 with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as part of the CYSO Young Soloists First Step series, performing the Bach D minor Piano Concerto with conductor Roland Melia. In December 2014 she went on to perform the Mozart D minor Concerto with Birmingham Conservatoire Repertoire Orchestra and conductor Daniele Rosina. During her undergraduate studies at Royal Holloway University of London, she was a scholar of Georgiou and Maria Tirimou’s foundation and now she briefly returns to her homeland for a musical evening titled A Piano Choreography.

One day later and Technopolis 20 is concluding its outdoor events with a performance that features beloved songs from the Golden Era of Greek Cinema. The young soprano Riana Athanasiou and the tenor Constantinos Andronikou will share their passion for the timeless classics from the 50s and 60s sung by legendary Greek movie icons such as Hatzidakis, Mikis Theodorakis and Mimis Plessas. Constantine and Riana will be accompanied by Andreas Michalopoulos on the piano, promising a musical night with great stories, banter and why not, spontaneous sing-alongs.

Then, on the very last day of October, the first indoor event of Technopolis 20’s new season will take place. The Fluboe Trio will present an autumn evening with the sounds of the Baroque Era. Leading Baroque musician Klaus Storm will be on the oboe with Florian Rabe on the flute and Agnes Tang on the harpsichord to perform Baroque masterpieces by Telemann, Kleinknecht and Loeillet.
