A weekend full of live music

So what if the summer is almost over? The autumn season in Cyprus seems to be just as busy. With a return to routine and slightly cooler temperatures, the island’s events agenda is packed with dozens of events, including live music with a few gigs this weekend worth checking out.

In Limassol, Vinylio Wine Etc bar has a Jazz and Bossa Nova night planned for Friday. Alice Ayvazian on vocals and Alexis Kasinos on guitar will entertain guests with the Latin sounds of Bossa Nova as well as swinging jazz songs from 8.30pm onwards.

Over in Larnaca, Erika Soteri and Alexis Sunder team up for a night of Soul, Funk and Blues at Savino Live on the same night. Hosted by Emerald Live, a night of old-school vibes with a new-school twist will unfold, featuring soulful classics, electric funk grooves, delicious blues and RnB melodies. These two artists have become staples on the island’s live music scene over the past year yet they will not take the stage alone. Accompanying them is a four-piece band with Max Daniels on bass, Kris Grecian on drums, Andreas Epaminonda on guitar and Elina El Malouli on backing vocals.

Music performances are also happening in Nicosia this weekend as Sarah’s Jazz Club welcomes back the Kalopedis Quartet on Saturday. George Kalopedis leads the jazz band with his signature spirited vocals. Loukas Loukas is on piano, backed by the tuned-in, skilful rhythms from drummer Kris Grecian and double bassist Costas Challoumas. The band’s repertoire is swinging, classic jazz, soul and RnB with tunes made famous by male vocalists like Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Michael Bublé, Ray Charles and Van Morrison, put together to create a memorable jazzy night.
