It is time for the world of literature to take over Acropolis Park and fill it with books and illustrations. Returning for another year, the Nicosia Book Fest is ready to welcome bibliophiles on October 13-14 and 22-23.

Originally planned as a consecutive four-day festival, the Book Fest organisers announced that due to bad weather forecasts they are moving all of the actions of the performance Stages and the Book Fair scheduled for October 15-16 to October 22-23. However, some events to look forward to this weekend remain as the closed Events Room Spilies at Acropolis Park, including the Official Opening of the festival, will take place as planned this Thursday and Friday.

Since the first festival back in 2016, Nicosia Book Fest has grown with the support of local organisations and each year returns with a packed agenda. Like every edition, publishing houses, bookstores, writers’ associations, universities, libraries, foreign cultural institutions and embassies will participate in the festival, dozens of writers from Cyprus and abroad will be presented, educational workshops will be held, while music and theatre performances will be presented on the main stage of the festival.

This year’s festival will introduce the Honoured Country, a new thematic tribute to the literature of a specific country that will be honoured each year through specific actions in the festival’s programme. For 2022, Portuguese literature has been selected as the honoured country on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Portuguese Nobel Prize-winning author José Saramago.

The upcoming festival will host dozens of presentations and specific actions of larger and smaller sizes, artistic events (musical, theatrical, dance and narrative) in collaboration with various cultural institutions with artists from Cyprus and abroad.

Theatrical performances, a book swap library, a treasure hunt, a children’s reading club with trained doggos and cartoon character workshops are just a few of the festival’s actions. Between book browsing, poetry readings and various interactive activities, the 7th Nicosia Book Fest has something planned for all.
