Extended jab centre hours on Wednesdays

The health ministry has announced the expansion of the vaccination centres’ operation hours from Wednesday, following requests by companies and individuals wishing to receive the anti-coronavirus jab.

Under the new opening hours, walk-in vaccination centres in all districts will operate from 8am until 5.30pm on Wednesdays, with the exception of Polis Chrysochous.

The remaining weekdays the centres operate until 2.30pm.

Vaccination centres operate at the state fair in Nicosia, Larnaca old hospital, Linopetra health centre, Paphos general hospital, Famagusta health centre, at the former co-op bank in Kyperounta and at the Polis Chrysochous hospital.

Explaining the change, deputy director of nursing services Evagoras Tambouris told Cybc the ministry received requests from several individuals as well as companies who wanted to proceed with their vaccinations but were unable to do within the operating hours of the vaccination centres in the morning.

“If there is additional demand we will surely look into [adding] more days or any other changes,” Tambouris said.

The ministry is also considering carrying out vaccinations over some weekends.

“We are looking into expanding the hours for every first Saturday of the month…but no decisions have been taken,” the health official added, explaining decisions are expected at the end of the month.
