An episode of Masterchef Turkey was filmed in the ghost town Varosha, where contestants were asked to cook Cypriot dishes, reports in the north said on Friday.

The episode featured a guest appearance by Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar’s wife, Sibel, and the ‘tourism minister’ Fikri Ataoglu.

The competition for the episode was judged by former Turkish Cypriot contestant of the show, Tanya Kilityali.

The trailer of the episode begins with shots of the north including sites like Salamis, Varosha, Kyrenia Castle, and Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque (AKA Saint Nicholas Cathedral), and Saint Barnabas church, also set to the famous Cypriot tune ‘Psindri Vasilidjia’.

Ahead of cooking, the cast watched Cypriot dancers perform.

Masterchef Turkey is produced by Acun Medya, who also is the production company behind many programmes in Greece, as per their agreement with Skai media.

Among the programmes they produce for Greece is The Voice Greece, aired by Sigma TV in Cyprus.
