A German tourist attempting to take pictures fell from a height of seven metres into the sea and was injured on Sunday.

According to a police statement, at around 3 pm on New Year’s Day information was received that a woman had fallen into the sea by the Peyia sea caves.

The 56-year-old woman, who was accompanied by her husband, had apparently backed up towards the sea, in an attempt to get a better shot.

Police, the coast guard and the fire service sped to the scene and rescued the woman and subsequently escorted her to the Coral Beach hotel.

The woman was then transferred by ambulance to Paphos general hospital A&E where the doctor on duty determined she had sustained fractures to her right arm and leg.

The woman’s condition is described as stable and out of danger and she was kept for further care and observation at Paphos hospital.
