Eight-day remand for attempted murder

Nicosia district court

Nicosia district court on Wednesday ordered the eight-day remand of a 36-year-old man suspected of attempted murder, police said.

The man was arrested on Tuesday after evidence pointed towards a case of attempted murder and robbery that took place the previous day.

A report said that around 2.45pm on Monday, police received information that a seriously injured 43-year-old woman arrived at the A&E department of Nicosia general hospital.

The doctor in charge told officers that the woman had suffered concussion, a broken nose, contusions, bruises and abrasions.

According to evidence under investigation, the woman was allegedly attacked by the 36-year-old, while two bags and other personal belongings she had in her possession at the time were stolen.

The 36-year-old was arrested on Tuesday with a warrant, while a search of his home in Nicosia as part of the ongoing investigation has so far revealed various pieces of evidence related to the case, as well as a quantity of cocaine.
