Three drivers were stopped on the highway on Saturday driving at extremely high speeds, the police announced on Sunday.

On the Larnaca to Kofinou stretch of the highway two drivers were stopped.

The first, aged 35, was driving at 173 km per hour, where the limit is 100. Shortly afterwards, a second driver, aged 20, was stopped driving 174 km per hour.

Meanwhile, on the Limassol to Paphos highway an 18-year-old driver was stopped driving at 172 km per hour.

The three drivers were charged in writing.

With the incidents the police reiterated that the main cause of serious traffic accidents is driving at high speed.
