Police on Sunday night made two arrests for an attempted robbery in Nicosia, aided by members of the public who responded at the scene.

According to the police, around 11pm they were called to the location where two citizens had immobilised the alleged suspects, aged 21 and 24.

The suspects apparently attempted to mug a woman at knifepoint, in a public place. The woman called for help and two bystanders responded and immobilised the muggers.

Police found the 21-year-old in possession of a knife with a pointed end, and identified the 24-year-old as an illegal resident.

The suspects were arrested and taken into custody while Nicosia CID continues investigations.
