Fire in Akamas  brought under control in 30 minutes

Firefighters are on alert in the Akamas peninsula on Friday after bringing a forest fire under full control in an area within the Akamas National Forest Park on Friday afternoon.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, competent authorities announced.

Two fire engines responded to the blaze at 2.50pm on Friday in the area of Rigena Tower within the Akamas National Forest Park.

The intervention of the fire fighters was immediate, the forestry department said in a written statement, and the fire was brought under control at 3.25pm.

It destroyed an area of 1,000 square metres of low vegetation.

Fire fighting forces remain in the area while the exact causes of the fire will be investigated at a later stage.
