President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday will receive Colin Stewart, head of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (Unficyp) to review efforts to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

The discussion is expected to cover a review of the situation in light of the political scene in Turkey taking shape after elections in that country, as well as President Christodoulides’ thrust towards a more active involvement of the EU in the Cyprus issue.

It is noted Stewart recently visited Brussels to meet with EU officials, the outcomes of which he is expected to report during his meeting with the president.

On Tuesday afternoon the UN official will meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, CNA reports.
