layout 1

The Romanian Society in Cyprus is organising the Festival of the Romanian Embroidered Blouse on Sunday, adding another multicultural note to the capital. From 4pm onwards, the Cultural Centre of Strovolos will fill with traditional Romanian art, music and dances.

This is the eighth edition of the festival and is organised in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Centre of Creation, Art and Tradition of the Bucharest Municipality.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a series of free activities and entertainment including a presentation of traditional Romanian costumes and the symbolism of the embroidery on the blouse. An exhibition of hand-made, embroidered artefacts and jewellery, produced by the ladies of the Romanian Society will also be displayed as well as an exhibition of paintings inspired by Romanian pottery, presented by the children of the Romanian School of Nicosia.

Additionally, a short artistic programme presented by the children of the Romanian schools of Paralimni and Paphos will take place alongside a musical programme with two well-known artists who will sing and perform different traditional instruments such as pan-flute, bag-pipe, caval and ocarina. Adding a tasty note to the festival will be a mini tasting buffet of traditional Romanian pastries, think cozonac, poale-n brâu and sărățele.
