Paphos police make five cannabis arrests over the weekend

Police charged and released five people on Saturday for possession and  use of a Class B controlled drug and traffic offences.

According to the police spokesman and CID chief Michalis Nikolaou, motorised traffic police intercepted a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man with a 25-year-old front-seat passenger.

During the search which followed, police found the 25-year-old in possession of a nylon bag containing cannabis, while the 23-year-old driver tested was found to be driving without a license or insurance and positive in a drug test.

The two men were charged in writing and released to be summoned later.

In another incident, shortly before midnight on the same day members of the crime prevention unit, on patrol in Mouttalos area, stopped a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man with a 29-year-old female front-seat passenger and a 24-year-old male passenger in the back.

During the search, police found cannabis on the back seat passenger and he was arrested. Police also found a small amount of cannabis in the possession of the 29-year-old woman, while the driver tested positive in a drug test.

All were charged in writing and released pending court summons.
