handcuffs 02

Two people have been arrested after attempting to smuggle a kilogram of cannabis to the north across the Ledras Street crossing point.

The suspects, whose names have not yet been disclosed by the north’s authorities, appeared in court in the north on Thursday charged with the ‘import of illegal drugs’.

The north’s police say they were tipped off that one of the two suspects would be attempting to cross the checkpoint with ‘a large amount of goods’.

The cannabis was due to be delivered to the other at Caglayan Park, which is located just outside the walls of the old city.

Both suspects have been remanded in custody subject to a further hearing.
