Two more boats with irregular migrants were spotted on Thursday off Cape Greco.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Larnaca received an alert about the two boats around 1.30pm. At the time the boats were located at about 60 nautical miles northeast of Capo Greco.

The police’s marine unit rendezvoused with the boats and escorted them ashore sometime after 9pm.

Police sources said the migrants were likely from Syria. Police could not give additional details at the time, such as on the number of people on board the boats.

Earlier, on Wednesday evening, authorities had towed ashore a wooden boat carrying 37 migrants.

The migrants had set off from Tartus, Syria, each paying $2,500 for the trip.
