The renowned “Original Red Bus Company”, the first open top bus service offering tourists tours within the Famagusta district, celebrated on Thursday 15 years of continued operation in Cyprus.

Established in 2008 by two Britons, Dave Williams from London and Dave Tutton from Manchester, the bus has been a point of reference for generations of tourists visiting Cyprus, particularly from the UK.

In a statement released for the occasion, the founders recalled the difficulties they had at the beginning of their journey.

“Gaining approval to carry paying passengers on open-top buses required extensive negotiations with the ministry of transport, leading to changes in the law,” the statement said.

“Additionally, the bus had to undergo further modifications, to comply with the Motor Vehicle Test requirements mandated by the ministry before we were allowed to even apply for licences to operate.”

Over the years, the two Britons set the goal to uncover the history and culture of the island to visitors.

“Our tours serve as a unique way to delve into Cypriot history, culture, traditions, and everyday life.

“Along the way, passengers have the opportunity to shop, savour local products, pass through quaint villages, and learn about the captivating island of Cyprus. Designed to be educational and informative, passengers are guided through the often unknown history of Cyprus,” the statement said.

The company was also awarded the coveted TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for ten consecutive years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Additionally, we have also been awarded a Commitment to Tourism award which recognised our long term aims.”

The company now offers customers three different tours, namely the “Divided Line”, “Varosha Experience” or “Famagusta/Varosha View tours”, all operating throughout the summer season.

“Over the past 15 years, we have been deeply grateful for the support of thousands of passengers, our local community and our loyal staff,” the statement continued.

To mark the 15-year anniversary, the company is offering a “Divided Line Tour” for the price of €15 on July 1. Interested people can book a spot by calling +357 96423602 or at
