Paphos police carried out road safety checks with 71 drivers reported within 24 hours, while a 37-year-old tested positive for driving under the influence of drugs.

The police announcement on Wednesday stated that the driver was stopped as part of a road safety campaign with paperwork being checked.

The driver was then asked to submit to a drug test which in turn came back positive. A subsequent check of the driver’s car led to officers uncovering an unspecified amount of an unspecified drug, according to the police report.

The driver said the drug was for personal use.

The operation carried out on Tuesday led the police to report 71 drivers overall, 23 of which were for speeding while the rest were for more minor violations.
