Justice Minister Anna Procopiou said the state is promoting measures towards gender equality and empowerment of women in all areas of life.
Speaking at an event on Wednesday, in support of residents of mountain regions, Procopiou introduced a state-sponsored series of “Active Citizenship” seminars on gender equality and elimination of social prejudice.
The minister praised the important work carried out by the social support network, and highlighted the role that education and training can play in bringing about the “full human potential” of inhabitants of mountain communities, especially women, towards improving their quality of life.
The minister addressed challenges faced by women in mountainous regions, due to the “deeply entrenched” discrimination and inequality, and gender stereotypes.
She expressed her full and undivided support for mountain women’s contributions to the preservation of the centuries’ old cultural traditions of their regions, as well as for “the achievement of social stability, development and progress.”
The minister assured attendees that she would continue to work for a society of just conditions and inclusion where all can enjoy their human rights unhindered.
