A team of experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) met with Health Minister Popi Kanari on Thursday, as part of the ongoing efforts to develop a national mental health strategy in Cyprus.

The visit is a continuation of a number of teleconferences which have already taken place on the matter.

The three-member team from the WHO held meetings on Wednesday and Thursday with all stakeholders, as part of the efforts to prepare the strategy.

So far, a number of subcommittees have been set up to identify everything that needs to be included in the strategy and the best way to ensure it is implemented.

Kanari thanked the WHO team for their expertise and support as part of Cyprus’ efforts.

Earlier this year, the Cyprus Mail reported that the government policy on suicide prevention is still lacking, amid increasing concerns from mental health experts.
