Police arrest fan for illegal possession of explosives

Police in Paphos have taken a 20-year-old into custody on Sunday to facilitate investigations into a case involving the possession of explosive materials and violence at a sports venue.

According to a statement released on Monday, during Sunday’s football match between Pafos and Apoel at the Stelios Kyriakides stadium in Paphos, police caught several fans throwing fireworks in front of the venue’s main entrance at 5.30pm.

During later checks, an individual was found in possession of fireworks allegedly used in the incident. At around 10pm the person was arrested and placed under detention.
