Driver injured on Christmas Day car accident dies

A 57-year-old man who was critically injured in a car accident on Christmas Day has died, police said on Sunday.

Kyriacos Economides from Yiolou succumbed to his injuries on Saturday where he was intubated at Nicosia general hospital.

Police said the accident took place on the Stroumbi – Tsadas road on Christmas Day.

Two cars collided under circumstances that are being investigated, causing one of the vehicles to veer off course ad collide with the car that Economides was driving.

He was critically injured and taken to Paphos general hospital but due to the severity of the situation, was transferred to Nicosia general hospital.

Paphos and Stroumbi police are investigating the circumstances which caused the first two cars to crash. The driver of one vehicle was a 76-year-old man, who had two female passengers aged 73 and 20, along with a male passenger aged 49.

The second vehicle was driven by a 33-year-old man, and a 34-year-old woman was the passenger. Two children aged two and six were in the car.
