CBC leads Global Money Week 2024 campaign in Cyprus

The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) on Friday announced its coordination of the annual global awareness campaign, Global Money Week, scheduled to take place from March 18 to 24, 2024.

This initiative, organised every March by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), aims to empower youth with essential financial knowledge, skills, and behaviours, enabling them to make informed financial decisions, and, ultimately, fostering economic prosperity.

The announcement noted that, as in previous years, the CBC takes the helm as the coordinator of Global Money Week in Cyprus.

Joining forces are the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Finance, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), and other institutions, including higher education institutions, non-profit organisations, and professional associations.

The theme for Global Money Week 2024, “Protect Your Money, Secure Your Future,” underscores the importance of safe money management and advocates for a responsible and informed approach towards financial decisions.

Moreover, the campaign highlights the need for people to recognise potential financial risks and take necessary measures to safeguard their finances.

The CBC explained that activities for this year’s campaign will primarily target young people and include educational campaigns, presentations, visits, discussions, seminars, and conferences featuring distinguished speakers.

Additionally, they also include the distribution of informative materials, as well as the screening of educational videos on financial literacy topics in educational settings.

What is more, the CBC has planned open seminars and lectures for the general public, combined with the publication of educational guides, and knowledge quizzes, which seek to inform people about the benefits of financial literacy and its contribution to individual, family, and societal well-being.

As part of the campaign, the CBC continued, educational videos featuring the president of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, and the governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus Constantinos Herodotou, will be showcased.

“In these videos, both officials expressed their wholehearted support for enhancing financial literacy in Cyprus, emphasising the necessity for continuous education and the dissemination of information on financial matters,” the CBC said.
