A 64-year-old woman died of heatstroke at Nicosia general hospital, while three others are in serious condition.
State health services (Okypy) spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said the woman died on Sunday afternoon.
She had been diagnosed with heatstroke, Charilaou said, speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
Another three women aged 25, 67 and 80 are also being treated for heatstroke at the same hospital.
“Their condition is considered serious,” he said.
Soaring temperatures exceeding 42C have led to increasing cases of heat exhaustion, Charilaou said.
Charilaou added that the people seeking medical help are of all ages, from children to the elderly.
He said it was important to heed the met service warnings and stay in a cool place during the heat peak hours and drink plenty of fluids.
