Andreas Angelides, lawyer and former Diko MP, died on Thursday.

His funeral will be held on August 2 at the church of God’s Wisdom in Strovolos, at 4.30pm.

Angelides was born in Larnaca on December 12, 1946.

He was a lawyer since 1971 and served as Diko MP from 2006 till 2011. In 2013 he joined the Citizens’ Alliance.

President Nikos Christodoulides said in a statement that Angelides left his mark on the political scene of the country, as well as legal science.

Christodoulides said Angelides had “selflessly, conscientiously and with a high sense of responsibility served the people, as a lawyer and through the parliament”.

The board of the Cyprus Bar Association said Angelides was a visionary and defended citizen rights, aiming in his daily life to improve the rule of law and good governance.

Angelides had published many articles in the daily press, as well as studies in legal journals in Cyprus and abroad.

He had written books on law, including one with his son, Simos Angelides, which they gave free to practising lawyers.

Political parties have also issued press releases praising his work and extending their condolences.
