A 19-year-old has been arrested in Paphos for conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, hunting in a restricted area, transporting an assembled hunting rifle and failing to comply with a game warden’s signal, police said on Monday.

Paphos police are investigating a case against three people, the teen and two others who are being sought.

On Sunday, members of the Game Fund patrolling near Arodes village to prevent poaching, became aware of a vehicle with three people inside.

The Game Fund reported that one of the passengers was holding a rifle through an open window and shot and killed a bird.

Although they signalled for the car to stop, the suspects accelerated and drove away.

The Game Fund took down the numberplates and police investigations led to the 19-year-old who was arrested, a 27-year-old who is wanted and a third person who has not yet been identified.

The dead bird has been retrieved to be used as evidence in the 19-year-old’s trial.
