Billionaire Serb Miroslav Mišković will be getting back his Cypriot passport, which was revoked after he was condemned for tax evasion in Belgrade and ultimately acquitted by the appeals court.
Mišković, whose property amounts to €4.5 billion – according to Forbes – had been granted Cypriot citizenship in 2012.
In 2019 he was sentenced by a Serbian court to two-and-a-half years in prison for tax evasion.
In October 2021, in line with suggestions made by the Myron Nikolatos inquiry committee, the cabinet decided to revoke the passports of both Mišković and his wife.
In January 2022, Mišković appealed the decision and in February 2022 the Serbian appeals court acquitted him of the charges he was facing.
In March 2022, Mišković’s lawyers said the decision to revoke the passports had been overturned by the appeals court ruling.
On September 4, 2024, the cabinet decided not to proceed with the issuing of a decree of deprivation of citizenship for Mišković and his wife.
The Serb oligarch owns investment company Delta Holding, which does business in services, commerce, property, car sales and agriculture, to name a few.
His connection to former President of Serbia Slobodan Milošević has never been obvious, with the exception of a short tenure as deputy prime minister in 1990, during Milošević’s term in office.
After Milošević was overthrown in October 2000, Mišković began building his empire.
