Three people arrested on Wednesday after police found over 2kg of cocaine in their car, were handed eight-day remand orders on Thursday by the Limassol district court.
The three, aged 35, 33 and 22, were arrested after a tipoff regarding a potential drug deal.
Following the lead, police spotted a vehicle, driven by the 35-year-old, pulling into a fast-food parking place in Limassol.
A motorcycle and one more car pulled up and then all three vehicles drove off.
They were found shortly afterwards parked in the Zakaki area.
The 33-year-old rider of the motorcycle was seen wearing a backpack and was stopped by the police drug squad.
The other two vehicles got away.
The rider tried to get away on foot but was caught and police found cocaine weighing 2.36kg in the backpack.
The 33-year-old was arrested for possession of drugs with the intention of selling them.
When interrogated, he appeared to involve himself in the case, saying the 35-year-old was paying him to move the drugs from the 22-year-old’s car.
During investigations, testimonies against the other two, aged 35 and 22, were obtained and they were later arrested.
The 35-year-old denied any involvement in the case, while the 22-year-old was not cooperating at all with the investigators.
A warrant to access the 33-year-old’s mobile phone, found inside the backpack, is pending.
Investigations are continuing.
