A fire which broke out early on Friday in a community council vehicle in Kissonerga has been classed as arson, police said.

The fire had broken out in double cab service truck and had been extinguished by firefighters around 2am.

The truck had been out-of-service and parked by the community council office on Charalambou Karagianni street for a period of time, due to mechanical and electrical faults, police said.

The maliciously set fire nonetheless caused extensive damages to the vehicle.

Officers earlier cordoned off the scene as the electromechanical unit, as well as the crime department, carried out tests and gathered evidence.
