On Sunday at 5pm two Cypriot Youths turned up at my ancestral home in Droushia Village and stopped their khaki green Mercedes saloon vehicle on my drive to let the village mukhtar get past, with their antiquated shotgun hanging out of the window.
I was outside on the side balcony working and a shot was fired against my house, I leant over to see what they were planning to do next.
When the university student saw me he reloaded the shot gun and aimed at me and fired the hunting cartridge directly at me. This was a clear unprovoked incident of attempted murder.
The police were called to investigate the incident, but claimed this is Cyprus and not England or South Africa. Upon enquiry the police informed me that the youth was not in the country, yet he was seen by everyone at a wedding in Polis.
Last night he was seen with his collaborators sitting outside the local coffee shop, drinking and playing backgammon.
Cyprus needs to more like Switzerland and adopt a no guns or hunting policy.
