Disciplinary proceedings begin next week against trade unionist policeman Nikos Loizides for statements he made regarding the police force.
Loizides, who is Isotita trade union’s vice president and spokesman, as well as head of Isotita’s police sector, is being charged for statements he made in his trade unionist capacity, by which he stood up for policemen’s rights.
The previous leadership of the police force had deemed that, since he is a policeman, he had to abide by the regulations of the force.
Loizides has already raised an issue of deliberate and malicious persecution with the Group of States against Corruption (Greco) and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Philenews reported that Loizides was informed last week that the disciplinary proceedings would begin on November 8, and he would be standing before a three-member disciplinary tribunal.
The tribunal, comprising a senior police officer and two members of the Law Office, has the authority to impose penalties including dismissal or forced resignation.
Loizides, facing charges of inappropriate and oppressive behaviour and absence of loyalty and abuse of trust will stand before the tribunal with four lawyers.
Remarks that annoyed the police leadership included that the police force was at a deadlock regarding its operation and reorganisation.
The indictment refers to inappropriate and damaging remarks, which discredited the police force.
The statements were made over a period of nine months, from November 2023 to August 2024.
Among the nine witnesses are police spokesman Christos Andreou and journalists Andreas Demetropoulos and Katerina Charalambous.
Disciplinary investigations began in March on instructions by the Law Office.
Loizides seems to have been informed about a second disciplinary case, out of the four investigations the previous police leadership had ordered.
