Three men arrested after assaulting police officers and other offences, are being brought before the Larnaca district court on Wednesday.
According to the police, the case unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when officers on patrol followed a car being driven dangerously and recklessly on the Oroklini coastal road.
Officers used a siren and a beacon to signal for the driver to stop but the he sped up and police witnessed objects being thrown out of the window.
Police gave chase and when the vehicle was finally intercepted its three occupants, a 43-year-old and two 28-year-olds, resisted arrest and attacked the officers, causing them real bodily harm.
Eventually the men were immobilised and taken into custody, while the two policemen, as well as the 43-year-old arrestee, went to the Larnaca general hospital to be given first aid and were discharged.
The three arrested were taken into custody and are to be brought before the Larnaca district court for the execution of their warrants. When questioned, one of the 28-year-olds allegedly admitted being in possession of a small amount of a “crystal narcotic” which he threw out of the car.
Athienou police and the drug squad (Ykan) are continuing investigations.
