Smart street lights began to be installed in Paralimni, the Paralimni and Dherynia municipality announced on Friday.

The old street lights began to be replaced on Thursday with smart lights which use LED technology and consume less energy.

“This is a very important project that will save more than 65 per cent of electricity and will significantly improve and upgrade the street lighting services in the borough of Paralimni,” the municipality said.

Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos explained that this project will result in significant financial savings for the municipality.

He also expressed gratitude to the electricity authority (EAC) for signing the agreement to install the lights, and said the lights’ installation “demonstrates the close cooperation” between the municipality and the EAC, with the aim of the municipality being “more ecologically oriented and sustainable”.
