Police in Paphos arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs, reckless and dangerous driving, and other offences.

Polis Chrysochous police arrested the man near the village of Goudi, after his car was spotted without registration plates. Officers signalled for the driver to stop for a check but he failed to obey and attempted to speed off.

Police pursued the vehicle and fired warning shots in an effort to bring the car to a halt.

The suspect was finally stopped in Prodromi and in a search police found and seized small amounts of cannabis and methamphetamine. The 29-year-old was identified as a resident of a neighbouring village and arrested for the offences.

Further investigations revealed he had been driving an immobilised vehicle which was not covered by the requisite roadworthiness documents. The colour of the car had also been changed without informing the authorities.

The man was charged in writing and arrested on a court warrant pending against him for his previous failure to appear for a case at the Paphos District Court.
