The Greek Cypriot side last month submitted a proposal for the opening of new crossing points, but the Turkish Cypriot side has not yet done so, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Sunday.

It said the proposal includes the opening of crossing points at Pyroi-Athienou and Kokkina.

The proposal was submitted by Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou but so far no reaction or comment has been made by the Turkish Cypriot side or its negotiator Guner Onar.

On Saturday, President Nikos Christodoulides said he is ready to discuss the issue as early as Monday.

He said the Greek Cypriot side is “fully prepared” and has done “all the relevant preparatory work.

Last week Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar spoke about a difference of opinion on new crossing points and claimed the Greek Cypriots want crossing points through military areas in Pyroi and Kokkina and not regular crossing points, adding that this is not something they discussed in the recent meeting with the UNSG in New York.

The Turkish Cypriot press has posted in recent days about opening a crossing point in Louroujina and a crossing point for cars in Nicosia’s Mia Milia.

In October Christodoulides and Tatar had a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in which they decided a five-party meeting would take place soon, but no date has so far been confirmed.

They also discussed the opening of more crossing points.

Christodoulides and Tatar are expected to meet at the Ledra Palace on Tuesday during a reception hosted by the head of the UN special representative in Cyprus mission Colin Stewart.
