Work was halted on Monday at the construction site in the Paphos district village of Kissonerga where a dead body had been found on Saturday.
News website Reporter wrote that officials from the labour inspection department visited the site and found that safety measures being taken there were “not appropriate”, and thus ordered that work be suspended.
The body was located at the bottom of what will be a lift shaft and was later identified as a 26-year-old man. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.
News website Cyprus Times reported that the body was found lying face down, with initial investigations seeming to suggest that his death may have been caused by the fall down the lift shaft.
Paphos police assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou said on Saturday that the body was found when a person visited the site for work purposes.
Later that day, he said the man had suffered injuries to his head and to his right hand.
Additionally, he said, a bag containing electrical cables, believed to have been removed from the construction site’s electrical installations, as well as a cable cutting tool were found near the body.
