Newly formed musical group Nābu Pēra is getting ready for a series of shows around Cyprus. Three musicians from the island make up the ensemble – Natasa Hatziandreou on percussion, Dimitris Yasemidis on flute, trombone and electronics, and Savva Thomas also on percussion and vocals. Aiming to promote contemporary Cypriot music both in Cyprus and abroad, they present their performance Soundscapes of Nicosia to Paphos and Nicosia audiences.
Their first stop is at Technopolis 20 in Paphos on January 26 for a 7pm concert. Their performance is an original exploration of the everyday sounds that surround us. It comes together through a unique blend of natural and electronic sounds and a large variety of instruments.
Audiences will hear wind instruments such as flute, trombone and duduk and also several percussion instruments like the vibraphone, bendir, rek and kogas against a backdrop of electronic elements.
“This diverse combination of sounds,” say organisers, “drawing influences from multiple musical genres and showcasing the talents of three musicians from different backgrounds, offers a rare auditory experience in Cyprus. Soundscapes of Nicosia not only aims to entertain but also to encourage reflection on our relationship with the sound environment in which we live.”
In February, the trio will perform in the capital as part of the Nicosia International Festival. Their performance on February 11 will be held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, starting at 8.30pm.
