Police on Wednesday are continuing their investigation into a brawl at a minors’ housing facility in Limassol which resulted in damages and two injuries.
Police were interrogating eight young offenders from the residential centre in Zakaki, for offenses including conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, rioting, assault with actual bodily harm, malicious damage, stabbing, and breach of peace.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and appears to have been a targeted attack against two women.
According to the police, the incidents were preceded by a visit from an NGO that deals with migration issues. Members of the organisation had visited the shelter to speak to residents.
After they left six minors and two adult residents began throwing rocks, and wooden and other objects at a nearby house, causing damage to a car and injuring a female member of the public on the head.
Neighbors rushed to help return the minors to the structure and a scuffle ensued, during which one minor resident sustained injury, and damages were caused.
The injured woman and the minor were taken to Limassol general hospital where they were administered first aid and discharged.
The eight young men were interrogated and charged in writing for their offenses, and were subsequently transferred to other accommodation facilities.
The Limassol CID is continuing investigations.
