The value of bounced cheques in Cyprus saw a significant decline in 2024, dropping by €1.15 billion to €617,873.

This compares to €1.77 million in 2023, according to figures released on Friday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) in relation to the Central Information Register (CIR).

The number of bounced cheques recorded in the CBC’s provisional list in 2024 was 300, down from 356 in 2023.

Additionally, the number of individuals (both natural and legal persons) listed in the provisional register for 2024 totalled 151, a decrease from 231 in 2023.

Among the individuals listed in the provisional register in 2024, 55 were natural persons, down from 95 the previous year, while 96 were legal entities, compared to 136 in 2023.

The CBC also reported that the total number of entries for individuals (natural and legal) in the CIR for 2024 was 202, a reduction from 274 in 2023.

Specifically, 77 legal entities were listed in the CIR, down from 101 in 2023.

In addition, 32 natural persons were recorded, a decrease from 48 in 2023, while 93 individuals controlling legal entities were registered, compared to 125 the previous year.

Finally, the CBC reported that the average monthly entries for individuals in the CIR for 2024 stood at 17, down from 23 in 2023.
