Jazz, blues and pop rock tunes will sound throughout Nicosia this week as local musicians present new performances to please music lovers. Here is where to catch live music in the city this week.

Kicking off the events is the Cyprus premiere of Andys Skordis’ work ‘β’, presented as part of the 5th Nicosia International Festival on Thursday evening. The highly-anticipated concert is an interdisciplinary performance that presents Skordis’ latest musical project. But that is not all.

β’ has four musicians performing on stage blending electronics and live VJ performers (that is video performance artists). This is more than just a music concert. It uniquely blends music, lighting, text and moving images to create a one-of-a-kind experience.

On Friday, a jazz show will entertain enthusiasts of the genre in old Nicosia. Yalla Collective Space & Café will welcome the Bopsters Trio at 8.30pm who will play music from jazz legends such as Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and Barry Harris. Their repertoire will also include some jazz standards. Swaying audiences into a jazz dream will be Demetris Miaris on keyboards, Kyriacos Kesta on double bass and Marios Spyrou on drums.

Over at Sarah’s Jazz & Blues Club, the Funked-Up-Project will bring rock, blues and funk sounds. Their Friday night performance will also include some original work which is coming out soon. Expect a funky night out with Pavlos Gregoras on vocals, Christos Pechlivanis on vocals and keys, and Nickolas Filippou on percussion.

Offering more of a late-night show (though they say this is an “early-ish” performance), the popular pop rock band Fuse will perform live in Nicosia. Back by popular demand, the band will step onto the DownTown Live stage at 10pm and offer their usual explosive show.

On Sunday, one more Nicosia venue has music to share. New Division will welcome The Kicker Band to its floor which joins forces with saxophonist Charis Ioannou for a musical performance dedicated to the American jazz ensemble John Scofield Quartet. The Sunday night show, starting at 9pm, will include compositions by guitarist John Scofield, and also original music written by the band that is inspired by the John Scofield Quartet.
