Procedures are underway to open a new palliative care centre in the Paphos district village of Tala, the village’s mukhtar Yiannakis Kokkinos said on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, he said the building which will house the centre was donated by a British couple to a non-profit organisation, and said the project is ready for operation “except for a few details”.
He added that the building is set in a “lush green environment” and will provide palliative care to patients in the last stage of their lives.
The centre will be staffed by what he described as a “specialised interdisciplinary team”, consisting of nurses, doctors, social workers, physiotherapists, and volunteers.
“We, as the village of Tala, aim to support this effort. I would also like to thank the British couple for their generosity in offering free, comprehensive, and continuous palliative care to terminally ill cancer patients, as well as their families, with the aim of achieving the best possible quality of life,” he said.
Additionally, he said, palliative care services will be provided to patients for pain management and relief from other physical symptoms, as well as psychosocial and spiritual support services.
The centre will consist of six rooms which will accommodate six patients.
