The Road Transport Department (TOM) has at long last set up a call centre to provide vehicle owners with valid information regarding faulty airbag recalls.
Owners can call the helpline on 22-600-500, Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 3pm.
TOM has also uploaded a FAQ section, telling owners what to do if they receive a recall sms, what to do if they haven’t received one and why vehicles are being immobilised. The section includes a total of 19 Q&A.
If one receives an sms for a recall, they should make an appointment with the distributor or dealership in Cyprus to replace their faulty airbag.
If an sms is not sent but the vehicle is included in the recall list, this means that the contact details of the owner have not been updated. Such owners should also make an appointment with the distributor or dealership in Cyprus to replace their faulty airbag.
The criteria listed for immobilisations are based on information sent by the manufacturers. A total of 138 vehicles have been ordered to be immobilised for faulty airbags and 138 for bad brakes. The MOTs and road taxes have been withdrawn for these cars until the recalls have been completed and the vehicles pass their MOT again.
