The police believe there was “malicious intent” behind a fire which broke out in a high school in Limassol shortly after midnight on Saturday.
The fire broke out in a classroom at 12.30am, with an overnight security guard noticing it and alerting the fire brigade.
They rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other classrooms, though it did cause damage to school equipment and furniture.
The police say the perpetrator or perpetrators broke a window and set fire to the broken glass using a “flammable material”, before also breaking another classroom’s window, but failing to set fire to it.
The perpetrators are believed to me “young males”. The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
